It's no secret that many of us have fallen asleep with makeup on. It happens by choice (too lazy to get up) or not by choice (too much wine). My sheets, pillowcases, clothing, and skin have all paid for this at one point or another. Besides the dreaded stains of leftover makeup all over everything I own; my bathroom mirror shows EVERY PORE I neglected the night before. Since I'm preaching to the choir, here are some helpful tips that have rescued me from this situation time and time again.
PS: This blog post doesn't mean I will never fall asleep with makeup on again. I will. I'm an occasionally lazy person and occasionally I'm willing to accept the consequences.
Incase you're one of those people who never want to fall asleep with makeup on ever again, here are some quick and easy ways to make your night routine much easier.
- If you have a nightstand by your bed, stick some makeup remover wipes in the drawer! You won't have to move from your comfy bed and your face will be makeup-free! I still recommend cleansing your face, but removing makeup with a wipe with do the job.
- The MAKEUP ERASER cloth!! This is a super genius way of taking your makeup off & being ZERO WASTE. Basically, all you have to do is wet the cleansing washcloth and your makeup comes right off. This is definitely for the girl who wants as little as effort as possible, but wants to be responsible about skincare.
- Use a cleansing facial oil! The oil is meant to remove your makeup and the cleansing does the rest. French Girl Organics carries the holy grail of facial oils. And it just so happens you can pick it up locally at The Topping Tree.
First Step: Admitting You Have a Problem
Actually, your skin is probably super pissed at you. If it were a separate person it would probably unfriend you on Facebook. If you're anything like me, you will see dry spots, redness, breakouts, and your skin will be super sensitive. Oh and don't worry, mixed in with your "rough-looking" skin you will probably see mascara on your cheekbone and eyeshadow spread across your forehead. This is exactly what I signed up for! So now that I am acknowledging what I did to myself, how do I fix it?
Miss Violet Lace has an amazing vegan makeup remover that could probably remover permanent marker! Just simply apply a few drops to a cotton ball or pad and apply! I usually start with my eyes since they usually have the most product, but it all depends on how you wear your makeup.
Second Step: Mask Heaven
Clay masks are awesome because they help shrink pores and tighten the skin. I definitely would recommend doing one after you've taken your makeup off. Usually, I do a clay mask 2-3 times a week. But clay masks aren't the only way to go! Have you guys ever tried a charcoal mask? Thats another favorite of mine that saves my skin! Charcoal will basically do everything that the clay masks do, but theres a bonus! Charcoal helps pull toxins from the skin that cause breakouts. When breakouts happen I usually apply charcoal directly to the blemish and let it stand for 20 minutes. works. every. time.
Final Step: Cleanse, Tone, & Moisturize
Once your mask has had about 20 minutes to dry, soak a wash cloth in warm water and gently remove the mask. After that, use your favorite cleanser to remove any mask residue! I really enjoy the fruity pomegranate smell of Sov Designs Cleanser! Its natural and your skin will feel clean and fresh! After I cleanse, I spray a toner all over my face. With a clean cotton pad, I evenly distribute the toner to every area of my face. I recommend circular motions and always lifting the skin upward; the less pulling on the skin the better. Toner is great because it helps return your skin to its normal pH balance. It also removes excess product or makeup residue, tightens skin, and helps absorb your moisturizer better into your skin! Which brings me to my last point: apply moisturizer! Once you do that your skin is should be revamped and ready to go- and maybe not so mad at you anymore haha!
